Helping children build healthy dental habits

25 June 2026 · 3 min read · by Dr. Niti Nathani, B.D.S., M.D.S. (Prosthodontics) · MSDC Reg. No. A-52049

Good habits learned early tend to last. A few gentle, consistent routines make a real difference to children's dental health.

Make brushing routine

Brushing twice a day, supervised while children are young, helps build a habit that sticks. Making it part of the morning and bedtime routine takes the negotiation out of it.

Be mindful of sugary snacks and drinks

Frequent sugary snacks and drinks through the day give teeth less chance to recover. Keeping sweet treats to mealtimes, and choosing water between meals, is generally kinder to teeth.

Keep first visits positive

Early, friendly visits help children get comfortable with the dentist before any treatment is ever needed. A relaxed, unhurried first experience goes a long way.
